Welcome to SHU Calisthenics Society!
We're a group of Hallam students who train calisthenics and bodyweight strength together. Pull ups, dips, push ups, handstands, levers and everything in between, all using your own bodyweight and a bit of bar.
Who's it for?
Everyone. Whether you've never done a pull up in your life or you're already working on muscle ups and front levers, there's a place for you here. Every exercise has scaled progressions, so you'll always be training at a level that suits you and building up safely from there.
What do sessions look like?
Our sessions are a shared workout rather than a formal class. A committee member leads each one, starting with a proper warm up, then demonstrating the movements and helping everyone find the right progression. It's a relaxed, supportive atmosphere where people push each other on and celebrate the wins, big or small.
When the weather's good we train outdoors at Endcliffe Park Outdoor Gym and The Ponderosa. When it's not, we move inside to a booked indoor space.
What's the plan this year?
Cost
Membership is £5 for the year. Outdoor sessions are free, and for indoor sessions we split the venue hire between everyone who comes, so it's just a small share each time.
Want to get more involved?
We're a new society and we're looking for people to join the committee. If you'd like to help shape what we do, come and chat to us at a session.
Follow us on https://www.instagram.com/shu.cali/ to find out when and where the next session is. We'd love to see you there!
