Student Mobile Phone Scam

We would like to highlight to all our students news we received of a mobile phone scam which is targeting the Sheffield area.

If you are contacted on Facebook or see an advert on social media with a job opportunity for students in which you take out mobile contracts, and then sell the phones on to another company, be aware that this is a scam.

If a job opportunity sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Do not give any personal information (name, address, bank details, email or phone number) to organisations or people before verifying their credentials, this means checking they are who they say they are!  If you are unsure how to do this the Advice Centre can help you.

Do not meet individuals on your own if you have not already verified their credentials, this can be incredibly dangerous.

Here is a link to a BBC report when this scam was first reported last year.

If you think you have been a victim of this crime you can report it here.

If you need help and support doing this you can contact us here at the Advice Centre.

Victim Support is a charity which specialise in supporting those who have been affected by crime, you can also contact Student Wellbeing if you are struggling with the effects of a crime.
