Welcome to Filmmaking Society!

The film industry can be an incredibly daunting space to enter, but it doesn't have to be!

We set up this society to help creative students gain connections, learn, and build practical filmmaking skills that will last through university and beyond. 

WHEN AND WHAT?

We are aiming for an official event once every two weeks, but there may be other opportunities to get involved in too! These will include

• Opportunities to share in-progress work and receive peer feedback.
• Screenings of short films from across the university.
• Guest speakers working in the film industry in unique ways.
• Practical workshops to learn new pieces of equipment or software.
• An exclusive newsletter for society members featuring film opportunities to get involved with.
• An annual awards ceremony celebrating the best in student filmmaking at Hallam.

2025/2026 Documentary project!

This is a big one!

Throughout the course of the year, the society will be creating an ongoing documentary short film project which members will form the crew of! This will be your chance to work on a project in the camera, sound, lighting, and editing departments. We are excited to share the subject of this documentary, which will be screened in a cinema at the end of the year!
