The Debate Society is a dynamic and inclusive student community dedicated to developing critical thinking, effective communication, and confidence in public speaking. We provide a welcoming environment for students of all backgrounds and experience levels who are interested in discussing ideas, challenging perspectives, and engaging in thoughtful debate.
Our society meets every Thursday at 6:00 PM, where members take part in structured debates, interactive workshops, training sessions, and open discussions on a wide range of social, political, cultural, and philosophical topics. These weekly meetings are designed to help members build argumentation skills, improve clarity of expression, and learn how to engage respectfully with differing viewpoints.
Beyond our academic activities, the Debate Society places strong emphasis on community and member wellbeing. We regularly organise a variety of social events, including creative socials such as pottery painting, as well as other relaxed gatherings that allow members to connect outside of formal debates. These events help foster friendships, encourage collaboration, and ensure the society remains supportive and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Whether you are an experienced debater or completely new to debating, the Debate Society offers a space to grow, learn, and have fun. All students are encouraged to join and get involved.
