Content warning: Sexual violence and relationship abuse

This week is Sexual Violence Awareness Week.

Figures released last year by the NUS stated that almost two thirds (62%) of students and graduates have experienced sexual violence at UK universities and one in seven students have experienced domestic abuse.*

Here at your Students' Union, we know this is an issue which cannot be ignored, and with so much press coverage at the moment we know this could feel very frustrating. We would like to work with our students to campaign on this issue. A campaign is when people come together to work towards a shared goal. You may recognise some campaigns from the news and social media, such as Greta Thunberg's School Strike for Climate, Black Lives Matter, or #MeToo.

These very visible campaigns all have something in common, they started with someone saying 'Enough! Things must change'. A seed of an idea can change the minds of thousands of people. Your Student Rights Team believe that each student has an idea for a campaign and together we have the people power to support them.

Are you interested in working with your Student Rights Team to engage students on the topic of sexual violence and inspire them to stand up for their rights? If so, please get in touch with us via email or online. If you would like to know more about how we support student campaigns, you can fidn more information on our Campaigns page.
