Returning to University - what you need to know

The Students’ Union and the University have been working to prepare for the start of the new term over the past few months. Due to COVID 19, there will be some changes that will affect teaching and both campuses.

An extended campus experience

Your teaching and learning

· Teaching will be provided both on campus and online

International students

· International students can access support and information through the International Experience Team and on MyHallam

Postgraduate Research students

· Guidance on the opening of spaces and facilities for Postgraduate Research students will be provided in the near future

· Doctoral students can gain access to financial support during the COVID 19 period

· Guidance for Postgraduate Researchers who are overseas has also been updated

Degree apprentices

· The University campus will be open to apprentices in Autumn

· Further updates will be provided for the structure of semester one

Placements and work experience

· The format and delivery of placements is still being adapted

· Your course team will be able to provide you with more information about placements in your course

A safe Hallam campus

· The University and Students’ Union are putting in place a range of measures to ensure that all activity delivered from campus is done safely

· Plans are also being put in place to ensure students’ individual circumstances are discussed and that support is available


· The University is continuing to prepare Adsetts and Collegiate libraries to ensure they are safe for students

· Students can access a book returns service and a Click and Collect service is also being finalised

Welcome Week

· Welcome Week will include activities for all students, including those who are self-isolating or vulnerable due to COVID 19

· Students will be able to attend both online and face-to-face campus events

Graduation 2020

· Students who are graduating this year have been sent a short survey by email for feedback on potential options for Graduation ceremonies

Class of 2020

· Support is available for students who are graduating this year through the University website

Support and other services

Student support and wellbeing

· The University and Students’ Union is continuing to provide a range of support and wellbeing services which are accessible online over the summer

Disabled student support

· If you have a disability, long-term medical condition or a mental health condition, you can access additional learning support with a learning contract and funding

Student health services

· Student Health at the University will be moving back to campus in the Surrey Building from July

University accommodation

· The University is working with accommodation providers to ensure government guidance is followed

· Halls are offering flexible tenancy start dates, deferred contracts and amended booking policies

Online enrolment

· Returning students can enrol online – an email will be sent to invite you to enrol

· Regular emails will be sent to update you on the University and Students’ Union’s plans and MyHallam will also be regularly updated
