We welcomed a very special visitor to Hallam today, His Royal Highness the Duke of Sussex aka Prince Harry and our Student Officer team were invited along!
He was in Sheffield to visit the Invictus Games Trials and officially open the new wing at Sheffield Children’s Hospital but he stopped by at Hallam to meet the SHU Racing Team to see the car they built and raced at Silverstone and find out about a Hallam project looking at the way VR technology can help amputees to train themselves to use prosthetic limbs.
Flanked by police officers on motorbikes, Harry arrived in a black range rover to a crowd of cheering royal fans who had gathered outside the university building. He was then brought inside where he met the VC Chris Husbands and the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Sheffield before being whisked into a classroom to meet the team behind the VR rehabilitation project. He then spoke to the SHU Racing Team before unveling the commemorative plaque of his visit, joking to the audience "Is this what you've been waiting for? I hope it's good..."
He then head off on his way to the Invictus Games Trials. It was a great morning, despite the sweltering heat!
