Metal 2 The Masses

On 21st May, some of our students participated in one of the biggest rock music competitions in the city.

Metal 2 The Masses is a music event which takes place at various venues across the UK, including Corp in Sheffield. It was a competition for local rock bands, hosted by Corp and Heel Turn Promotions, with local bands such as Dead Harts headlining the event, and special guest support acts including Terminal Sun and Against the Grain.

Our very own Rock Society were able to participate in this year's event by being involved in some of the promotion by selling tickets, and two contestants from two different bands competing were Hallam students and members of the Rock Society,

Oliver Parkes, a Hallam student and Rock Society member, performed in his band, Steel Mage, and went on to win the competition. The prize for winning the competition was a place on stage at Blood Stock Festival, a British heavy metal festival which is held annually in Derbyshire.

Daniel Hudson, another Sheffield Hallam student and member of the Rock Society, also competed in the competition with his band, Desenser, who got on the reserves.

The Rock Society, who attended Metal 2 the Masses at the weekend, enjoyed the event, saying "it really brought the rock music community together and was a lot of fun."

The Rock Society hasn't only been successful when it comes to music and events. The society went on to win a number of awards in this year's Society Awards. They won the 'Committee of the Year' Award, the 'Extra Mile' Award, and the 'Digital Innovation Award'.
