LGBTQ+ History Month: Film list

As you might have seen, we have curated lists of recommendations for you as part of LGBTQ+ History Month. This is the second of the three lists and is all about films, below are our picks of movies for you to give a watch…

1. Moonlight (2016) – A film about a young black American man as he grows up and comes to terms with his identity and sexuality whilst facing other everyday struggles.

2. Disclosure (2020) – This Netflix Documentary explores the role of trans identity in Hollywood. It’s an enlightening watch, featuring insight from many trans people from the film and tv industry.

3. Portrait Of A Lady On Fire (2019) – A romantic drama in which Marianne, a painter, is tasked with painting the wedding portrait of a young woman, and a mutual attraction develops.

4. Pride (2014) – Pride is a comedy drama set in 1984 Britain while Thatcher is Prime Minister, about a group of queer activists who work to help miners and their families during the Miner’s Strike.

5. Love, Simon (2018) – Love, Simon is a high school comedy about secretly gay Simon who makes a connection with an anonymous emailer from his school.

6. The Half Of It (2020) – A shy straight-A student befriends and helps a popular boy write to a girl they both have feelings for, learning about the nature of love in the process.

7. Stonewall Forever (2019) – This short documentary marking 50 years since Stonewall is a good look into Stonewall and what happened there as well as the impact it had and the continuing fight for LGBTQ+ rights.
