Our Community Partner of the Month is Sheffield Cathedral, as nominated by first year English Language student Amy Warrington. Amy has been volunteering with Sheffield Cathedral since October 2016 when she first got involved through the SHSU Volunteering Community Partner programme. In her volunteer role Amy welcomes visitors, answers their questions and ensures they have a good experience during their visit to Sheffield Cathedral.
For Amy, the best part of volunteering is meeting a whole range of people from the wider Sheffield community; she says "It's nice to feel like you're adding something to their day". Amy also recognises she has developed her communication and interpersonal skills while volunteering, which is great for Amy’s personal development, as well as building her CV.
Amy spoke about taking the leap and signing up for the volunteering programme; "as long as you're smiling and you've got a friendly face you'll be fine. I really appreciate the opportunity they have given me. I'd say to anyone to have a go".
Like the sound of volunteering at Sheffield Cathedral? They have many other volunteer opportunities available such as giving guided tours or helping out with their Toddler activity club team. You can read more about all the roles and begin your application here.
