BREAKING: Hallam Students demand SU referendum

Featured

Union Council, the highest decision-making body at Sheffield Hallam Students' Union has unanimously called for a referendum on how the Union is run. This could signal huge changes for your Students' Union and your representation at Sheffield Hallam University.

The motion was called by Students' Union President Abdullah Okud and passed by 15 votes to 0.

Key parts of the proposed changes include: a new trans students' rep; a new student parents' rep; the introduction of six new student committees including sports, societies, volunteering, welfare, education and international students; accountability panels for keeping officers and reps in check; a new process for students to submit policy suggestions and the formal introduction of the Students' Union President as the co-chair of SHSU's board of trustees.

If that sounds confusing, don't worry, Welfare Officer Nabeela Mowlana explains, "this referendum is so important because of the potential to open up our structures allowing more students to get directly involved in their Students' Union".

Students will get the chance to voice their opinions on the proposed changes with a REFERENDUM running alongside this year's officer elections. Find out more information HERE and make sure you have your say by voting on MARCH 11th. Yes or no? You've got the power!
