April - month of the outdoors

April is all about the outdoors! Why? First we have National Parks Fortnight, 5 - 18 April, two weeks dedicated to the UK’s beautiful parks, forests and scenic landscapes. Then from 6 - 11 April there’s Community Garden Week, a week that encourages people to come together to garden in a way that benefits their community. Then comes National Gardening Week during 27 April - 2 May, and on top of all that, you can now meet more people outdoors!

We love it! Being in and out of lockdowns over winter has really helped build a craving for the outdoors and now it’s spring and the weather is getting better, it’s so good to be able to enjoy being outside again. As it’s also Stress Awareness Month, it’s good to recognise what a good walk and spending time with nature can do for your mood. So whether you’re into your gardening or just like walking around your local area, get out and enjoy April for all it has to offer.

Here are some outdoor activity ideas to have fun with:

  • Have a picnic
  • Ride a bike
  • Grow your own flowers, fruit and veg
  • Have a BBQ
  • Go stargazing

You can also check out our Give It A Go resources on things you can do at home, including self-guided walking tours, workouts and more!

Embrace the outdoors and have a great time, just do so within the guidelines and make sure you stay safe! Want to know what activities and events we have coming up? Head to our What’s On page to find out!
