We've all been there, haven't we? Picture this.
You're doing the weekly food shop, stroll over to the checkout to pay for your luxury items of baked beans and toilet roll (hey big spender!) but the next thing you know, you're met with the daunting realisation that your wallet/purse/non-gender-specific-money-holder is emptier than the UK treasury. Gutted.
Anyhow, what we're trying to say is that we know how hard it is out there now, but we're here to do all the legwork (or typey typey stuff) to make sure you can make the most of your downtime in a way that doesn't burn a hole in your pocket.
After all, who doesn't love a freebie?
There's plenty of free Museums for you to choose from whether you're exploring Sheffield's industrial heritage, or a taking a step into a simpler time. Explore, learn and save those precious pennies with exhibitions on your doorstep.
Are you a fan of looking pensive? Do you like to nod in approval at strange markings on walls? If so, you'll love venturing to art galleries scattered across Sheffield such as The Millennium Gallery which exhibit talented artists on a local and national level.
Volunteer with us to make the most of free days out (think beach clean-up days, park visits, Christmas markets, cinema days and zoo trips). Volunteering is a great way to see more of the world, enhance your CV and make friends.
Did you know that Sheffield is also The Outdoor City, officially the greenest city in the UK?
Whilst Sheffield is well-known for its industrial roots (pun-intended), the charming city is close by to local parks, the Peak District National Park and other pockets of greenspaces.
Visiting these places are a great way to connect with the local community and doesn't cost a thing!
Simply go on a solitary stroll through nature, listen to a podcast or go on a walk with a mate. Top tip: Save money by making a hot drink in a flask before you go on your walk or even do a spontaneous picnic.
Fancy trying something new with little-to-no commitment or cost? Try out our Give It A Go sessions that take place across the city throughout the academic year. Watch the latest films at our cinema days, create your own Lush bath bombs and visit festive markets with friends - these are just a few examples of what we get up to.
We work in partnership with the University to ensure that students feel supported. If you're looking for further financial help, check to see if you're eligible for the Hallam Hardship Fund.
