International Students' Officer Referendum

Should Sheffield Hallam Students' Union introduce a full time International Students' Officer?

Sheffield Hallam Students' Union currently has five full time elected student officers covering the remits of President, Education Officer, Welfare and Community Officer, Activities Officer and Sports and Physical Activity Officer. These officers have a remit to represent all Sheffield Hallam students.

This motion proposes adding a sixth full time officer, with this officer having a remit for representing International students.

Sheffield Hallam Students' Union is the representative body for all Sheffield Hallam University students and exists to give students the edge and create a supportive and inspiring student community.

Each year, students elect five full time paid officers and 12 part time voluntary representatives to lead the Students' Union and represent them all. Currently Sheffield Hallam Students' Union has a full time President, an Education Officer, a Welfare and Community Officer, an Activities Officer and a Sports and Physical Activity Officer. The Part Time roles represent student groups and include our BME Students Rep, Disabled Students Rep, LGBT+ Students Rep, Womens Rep, Mature Students Rep, International Students' Rep, Part Time Students' Rep, Postgraduate Students Rep and representatives for each of the four Faculties (Health and Wellbeing, Sheffield Business School, Science Technology and Arts and Social Sciences and Humanities).

This referendum asks whether we should replace the part time, voluntary, role of International Students' Rep with a full time, paid, sabbatical officer position of International Students' Officer.
