The sociology society welcomes new and returning members, to meet and socialise with students from different courses, who share an interest in social issues and the development of society.
Last semester was our first as a society, and we plan on carrying on as strong as we started! We’ve built a friendly community of students interested in the subject and we can’t wait to welcome some new faces. We meet weekly, alternating between socials and meetings. Last year we kept a busy schedule, including guest speakers, laser tag, bowling and planning a fundraiser, although Covid-19 put these plans on hold. This year we hope to follow through on these plans to raise money for a local charity, and host events to make socialising in these unusual times a little easier. The committee wants to build a society around the members, so we will do our best to listen to your ideas and suggestions for activities. We regularly send out polls for members to vote on what our next social or event will be, so you have a say in how the society runs. Your £3 membership fee helps us to organise better activities and contributes to food, tickets/entry fees and transport to and from events.
We plan to set a regular time for zoom meetings once timetables are released and hope to set a slot that fits as many people as possible, so all members can get involved!
This year will be challenging and unlike any other, but we can’t wait to rise to the challenge and face whatever comes our way with the friendly and supportive group we have at our society!
