Societies | Palestine

Palestine Society is very dynamic, diverse and intimate group of students who united together to keep Palestinian human rights at the heart of students’ consciousness and empower active international solidarity with the Palestinians in their struggle against Israel's longstanding systems of settler-colonialism and apartheid. In our society, we do not tolerate any form of discrimination based on racial, religious, ethnic, gender or sexual-orientation identity. We work together towards freedom, justice and equality for the Palestinians and all oppressed people around the world.

Since actions speak louder, we hold regular events to raise awareness about the injustices facing Palestinians under Israel and in exile. We also participate at local cultural and social events to celebrate the rich Palestinian cultural heritage that has been resisting to exist amidst systematic Israeli attempts to deface, appropriate and/or censor it.

Finally, we aim to use our power as citizens of this country, as students and the backbone of this institution to end a century of injustice and colonialism in Palestine, facilitated by Britain when it took control over Palestine following WW I. Then Britain sold the Palestinian natives' right to self-determination in what was commonly known as the Balfour Declaration of 1917, and promised support to the Zionist colonial enterprise in Palestine. This paved the way to Israel's establishment in 1948 on the ruins of 531 depopulated Palestinian towns and villages, a process of ethnic cleansing that continues to target Palestinian natives across historic Palestine today.

Therefore, we hope to join the global growing movement for justice in Palestine and contribute to empower and enforce the Palestinian-led human-rights-based call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) of Israel, and demand our university to sever any financial or institutional ties they have with companies profitting from Israeli crimes against the Palestinians until freedom, justice and equality is served in Palestine.

Join us in making Sheffield Hallam University more socially and ethnically responsible locally and internationally! If you share our beliefs and principles, sign up now!
