Societies | Volunteering: Creative Writing

We currently are not taking volunteers for this project. However, please get in touch if you would like to set up a similar project or book in for an informal chat to discuss available roles.

Project Aim

Are you interested in creative writing or in nurturing the creative talent of future authors? The Schools Creative Writing Project takes place in a local primary school and student volunteers will be teaching the children skills and tips to develop their writing ability. This may be poetry, fiction, journalism or more!

At the end of the sessions, the volunteers and children will have the opportunity to edit and print a collection of the work written during the project.

This project is great for students who are interested in developing their experience of working with children. You will also be able to develop your project planning, communication, confidence and teamwork skills, as well as you own creative writing ability!

The volunteers will design and plan the sessions in November-January, with the project due to start in schools for an hour each week from February.

Hours per week

1-2 hours

Volunteers on this project will need to complete Safeguarding training and a DBS Check which will be done by the Volunteering Team at SHSU. Information on this will be sent once you are on the project.

Expenses for travel can be reimbursed by SHSU for more information on this see the Volunteering Handbook.
