Last year, we ran a massive student survey to find out what you really needed from your schedule. The verdict was loud and clear: you wanted compact, predictable days on campus that respect your bank account, your travel time, and your life outside of uni - whether that's fitting in a part-time job or managing caring responsibilities.

We took your feedback directly to the University to co-design a set of brand-new timetabling principles.

What to expect from your 2026/27 schedule

1. No commutes for single hours

If you're traveling to campus, we want it to be worth the journey. You should normally only need to head to campus if you have more than one hour of timetabled teaching scheduled that day.

2. Max 3 days a week on campus

To help you balance work, life, and study, your teaching will normally be condensed across no more than three days per week and scheduled within the standard teaching week:

• Monday-Thursday: 9am-7pm
• Friday: 9am-5pm

3. Built-in breaks

Back-to-back classes can be exhausting. You will normally have no more than four consecutive hours of teaching without a proper break built into your schedule.

4. Goodbye, long gaps

No more hanging around for half a day waiting for your next lecture. You normally won't have gaps of more than three hours between on-campus sessions. If you do have a short break, it's the perfect time to grab lunch, catch up on reading, or hang out in the SU!

Keep in mind: Because every course is structured differently, how these rules look on paper will vary based on your specific subject, professional placement requirements, or elective modules.

When will I get my timetable?

Returning students: Your schedule will be published at least four weeks before teaching starts.
New students: You'll get yours during Hallam Welcome.

Communicating timetable changes

From time to time, your timetable may change. For advance changes, you'll be notified via email and your MyTimetable will be updated. For any last-minute, same-day changes, your course team will provide details and any alternative arrangements via text, email, or a Blackboard update.
