You may be aware of a planned protest and associated counter-protest taking place in Sheffield city centre on Saturday 26 September.

The protests are expected to reflect differing views around immigration, asylum, and community cohesion in Sheffield. Sheffield Patriots have announced a protest gathering at the Peace Gardens from 12pm. A counter-protest organised under the banner South Yorkshire Unites will assemble nearby in the city centre from 11:30am, with organisers describing the event as a demonstration against racism and division.

We understand the importance of dialogue and diverse perspectives, and we fully support our students' right to express themselves peacefully. Our priority is the wellbeing and safety of our entire student body. We support freedom of speech, and we ask that everyone conducts themselves respectfully and in accordance with our Student Code of Conduct.

South Yorkshire Police have advised there may be temporary disruption in Sheffield city centre. They’ve encouraged anyone with concerns to speak to uniformed officers who will be present in the city centre, while further information will be shared through the South Yorkshire Police and Sheffield City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team Facebook pages.

Due to the planned protests and other activity in the city, Sheffield city centre may be busier than usual. If you’re travelling through the city on Saturday, we recommend checking for any updates or disruption before you travel.
