Housing Fair 2023

events

Looking for student housing for next year? Don't worry - there's no rush!

Landlords often start advertising student properties early, but don't believe the myth that there's a shortage of student housing in Sheffield - it's not true! There's plenty of good quality housing available, so don't panic! Make sure you take the time to visit a variety of properties before signing a tenancy agreement for the next academic year.

Housing Fair

Come to our Housing Fair to meet landlords and agents, and explore your housing options.

All landlords invited to the event are part of the 'Snug' scheme, a student property standards scheme created to help ensure you have access to good-quality, safe student accommodation. In short, we only invite those with a good reputation.

There's no pressure to sign up to anything on the day, just have a browse, ask questions, and consider your options.

Join us in the Atrium, Owen Building (City Campus) on Tuesday 28 November, 11:30am-3:30pm.

What is Snug?

Snug is a property inspection standard awarded when homes meet the required standard of property and tenancy management, and the landlord is considered 'fit and proper'. The scheme is promoted by Sheffield City Council and both Universities and Students' Unions as the best way for students to make sure their home and landlord are approved.

Snug was set up to ensure students get high quality, properly managed accommodation, no matter how cheap your rent, so your time in Sheffield is both safe and enjoyable.

There are a range of benefits to choosing a Snug property, including:

  • Your house is guaranteed to be in good condition at the end of your tenancy, it's less likely that your house will need repairs throughout the year
  • Landlords voluntarily sign up to the scheme which means they're invested in providing good quality housing
  • You're less likely to experience bad housing conditions
  • You're more likely to have a landlord who is proactive and has a genuine duty of care for tenants
  • Because Snug holds landlords accountable, your landlord is more likely to want to resolve any issues quickly should they happen
  • Because management standards are regulated, you're more likely to get all of your deposit back
