We know how frustrating it is to travel to campus - especially if you commute - only to find out a lecture or seminar has been changed or postponed.

While teaching staff will always do everything possible to avoid changing scheduled sessions, unavoidable situations like staff illness do happen. Off the back of our work with the University, clear new rules have been set out for how staff should notify you if a timetable change can't be avoided.

What to expect going forward

For last-minute changes

If a class must be changed or postponed at short notice, academic staff should contact you through two direct channels:

  • An SMS Text Message: You'll receive a direct text to your registered mobile number with details of the changes.
  • A Blackboard announcement: Staff will post an announcement on Blackboard and email a copy straight to your student inbox.

For advance changes

Where a timetable change is planned more than 3 days in advance, the timetabling system will automatically send you an email notification and update your MyTimetable.

How to make sure you get alerts

To make sure you don't miss important updates:

  1. Check your mobile number: Log into MyStudentRecord and ensure your contact number is correct so SMS text alerts reach you.
  2. Enable Blackboard notifications: Download the Blackboard app and turn on push notifications to see updates directly on your lock screen.

We're continuing to work with the University to ensure your timetables work for you. If you experience issues with unannounced session changes or timetable clashes, reach out to your Course Rep, Lead Rep, or HSU Officers.

You can also share your experience with us anytime using our online feedback platform.
