Vietnamese Culture Day (VCD) is the most important event of the year which is a celebration by Vietnamese society in Sheffield in March to share the beauty of our culture to international friends. VCD is annually organised to connect not only the Vietnamese students, but also other international and local students together by creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Last year, VCD marked the “comeback” time of post Covid 19, our event had been successful with the presence of 120 people and the support of 50 volunteers from both universities. In addition, the event was also featured in several popular newspapers in Vietnam.
Following the success of previous years, this year we expect to see higher numbers as we would like to continue and develop this tradition of VCD. Therefore, with the theme of “Vietnam - Vietnam in my heart is…” we want to utilise this opportunity to show the beauty of culture and recall the ancient cultural values of our country.
To be more specific, in this year’s VCD, you will be able to see several student-led performances ranging from dancing in traditional costumes (12 students), singing war ballads (3 students), playing guitar (1 student) to a fashion catwalk in the traditional “ao dai” dresses (14 students). Additionally, you cannot fully immerse in Vietnamese culture without being exposed to our national heritage, the Vietnamese cuisine. Therefore, we provide authentic food and drinks cooked by professional chefs.
