On the UN International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinians, Samer Rashed and his trio will be coming from the Holy Land to tour the UK with his 2nd album Tales of Gypsy Jazz - Sheffield is one of several stops!

Samer Rashed is a Palestinian composer and viola player from Jerusalem. He graduated from the National Conservatory of Music in Jerusalem and began a challenging journey to pursue his passion in music composition, particularly for the viola. This journey led him to Istanbul, where he studied with world-renowned musicians and violinists, and was influenced by Turkish gypsy and jazz music.

This Week in Palestine Magazine, which ranked him as the Artist of the Month in August, described Samer as "the first Palestinian musician to compose a music album of this genre for the viola, which was distinguished by its upbeat rhythm and harmony, showcasing the beauty of simple yet sophisticated melodies that bring joy to listeners." The supporting instruments include Drums, Bass Guitar and Guitar, which enriches the album with an enchanting hybrid of Eastern and Jazz music!

Don’t miss out on this live performance of captivating Jazz tunes, performed by the best of musicians from Jerusalem, Nazareth and the Occupied Golan Heights!

Food will be available on pay how you feel basis. Profit will go to support PSC Sheffield's Children Projects in Gaza.

Organised by: Sheffield Hallam Palestine Society, in collaboration with University of Sheffield Palestine Society, Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Labour Friends of Palestine, and supported by TalkingGigs and Migration Matters Festival!
