Leeds Festival is an annual music festival which takes place in Leeds in August. They are looking for volunteers to help with the smooth running of the event. This a great oppurtunity to get some great work experience, try something new, make new friends and also getting to enjoy some of the festival.

Be part of the Helpful Arena Team, giving help and information to festival goers whilst you work and enjoy the rest of the festival in your free time! 

This role is based over show days in the main arena, and involves knowing the festival inside-out whilst being able to answer questions from the public and communicating any updates such as running order updates etc - all whilst emerging yourself in the bubble of Leeds Festival.  

You’ll have training before the festival and an onsite manager to guide you through. 

HATS will work in pairs or more throughout the festival area, assisting festival goers with directions and information, and reporting on any problems - such as litter and facilities. HATs will also be expected to monitor the crowds in busy areas and feed back to their supervisor who can advise Event Control as required. 


  • HAT roles at Leeds are from Wednesday 25th – Monday 30th August 2021 – PLEASE NOTE travel from SHU to Leeds is on Wednesday 25th August 2021. 
  • To apply, you must be a student undertaking any course at Sheffield Hallam University at any level of study. 
  • HATs are required to work 3x 8 hour shifts and will have the rest of time free to enjoy the festival 
  • 3 x 8 hour shifts will be in teams on rotation and may be between 10am and 2am 
  • We all camp together in the staff camping area 
  • You need your own tent or another HAT to share with 
  • We have a base camp gazebo with kettles, microwave, tea/coffee, charging points etc 
  • You get 2 x hot and cold meal vouchers each day 
  • You get a free-to-keep Festival Republic SHU T-shirt 
  • You get coach travel both ways, one way or you can make your own way there and back (£20 refundable deposit) 
  • You need to be onsite for the dates above 
  • There is a covid testing scheme before and during the festival - if you test positive you'll obviously need to leave/get collected - this may be easier for some depending on where you live. 
  • There are showers and toilets (festival style!) 
  • The role involves plenty of walking (mostly to and from camp) but are 
  • It's an incredible experience and you have time to enjoy the festival! 
  • Online training for health and safety and Counter Terrorism must be completed 1 week prior to the festival. 
  • £30 refundable deposit needed to secure your volunteer position, returned after the festival on successful completion of required duties  (plus the £20 refundable deposit for coach travel to the site). 
  • Covid lateral flow testing is required before departure and on site.  You must prove a negative test before departure.
