DATE: Monday 10 May 2021
TIME: midnight - midnight
In support of Mental Health week 10th – 16th May, we are asking students and staff to walk 1 million steps collectively throughout the whole week. All you need to do is register you interest in this event by purchasing a free ticket and at the end of each day email us a screen shot/picture of your phones step counter or whatever device you use to count your steps. Each day we will update our running total and hopefully together we will reach 1 MILLION steps by the end of the week.
A good walk can do wonders for your mental wellbeing. It improves self-perception and self-esteem, mood and sleep quality, and it reduces stress, anxiety and fatigue. Physically active people have up to a 30% reduced risk of becoming depressed and staying active helps those who are depressed recover.
Physical activity has a huge potential to enhance our wellbeing. Even a short burst of 10 minutes' brisk walking increases our mental alertness, energy, and positive mood. Participation in regular physical activity can increase our self-esteem and can reduce stress and anxiety.
So GET UP, GET OUT and GET WALKING.
