If you're an international student preparing to study with us, you probably have lots of questions about visas, accommodation, and what to expect when you arrive. We’ve got all the information you’ll need to help you feel confident and prepared.

1. Visas and accommodation

Before you travel, it's important to read through Sheffield Hallam’s webpages for international students. You’ll find essential information about:

Keep a close eye on the official Sheffield Hallam University correspondence (emails and letters). These will tell you the latest possible date you must arrive and complete your enrolment.

If you can’t arrive by this date, do not travel - instead, contact the University immediately to discuss your options.

2. Enrolment

Enrolment is an essential part of joining the University, and the first stage happens online - meaning you can start before you leave your home country.

However, to be fully enrolled, you must pay the tuition fees and complete the document verification process after you arrive in the UK. Be sure to leave yourself enough time to do this before your course officially begins.

3. International Orientation

Our International Orientation programme will help you settle into life at the University and in the UK. It will begin on Friday 12 September, and continue throughout Welcome Week from the 15 September, including your course induction.

It's a fantastic opportunity to meet other students, explore support services, and get answers to any last-minute questions.

Opening a UK bank account will make managing your finances much easier. After you arrive, you can:

  • Choose an online banking provider (check comparison sites to find the best deals)
  • Or open an account at a high-street bank, like Lloyds Bank, for in-person service

Find more advice about banking options and what documents you'll need on the University website.

We can’t wait to welcome you to the University and Hallam Students’ Union!
