What we are?
A committee to bring together people of BME heritage designed so we can share experience, ideas, and tackle any issues which we face in society or in Sheffield Hallam University. We aim to create a safe space for self-identifying BME students. We would love all BME students to participate in our upcoming projects and events. Come and let your voice be heard, get the best out of your student experience and be represented.
What we do?
The BME committee aim to create more awareness of the issues facing BME students at Sheffield Hallam University. We aim to create a platform in which these issues can be raised and then campaign to see these issues resolved. The BME committee is also involved in the organising of Black history month at Sheffield Hallam University. The Black History Month of 2016 was a huge success and we hope to see this follow through for years to come.
During this academic year, the BME committee will be aiming to create more engagement with the BME community at Sheffield Hallam, deliver another successful Black History month and also host events and socials, whether that be panel discussions or social events, to see the voices of our BME students heard.
To kick start the BME committee this year, we were proud to present our Open Mic night on the 12th of December 2016. It was filled with many exciting activities; such as spoken word and inspirational speeches from BME student leaders across the country.
We are about empowering BME Students - Speak and be heard.
