Weekend Ranger Volunteer

27 Sep 2025 - 11 Jan 2026

Closing date for applications is 30 Oct.

Looking for a low-commitment way to get involved in conservation in the Peak District? Our weekend ranger role could be right for you. Happening once a month, we are looking for people to help our rangers with a variety of tasks - ranging from footpath repairs, to tree maintenance, and more. You'll volunteer alongside our ranger team and have a great opportunity to explore the landscape and get some experience in areas like moorland restoration, woodland conservation, and much more - ideal for those thinking about a career in the conservation sector.

The role will be based in the High Peak, away from facilities, and there will be long walks to get to the work area so a reasonable level of fitness is needed. The Hope Valley railway line travels from Manchester through the High Peak, so for those without their own transport, we can arrange pick ups from either Edale or Bamford train station. Expenses for this can be claimed back by volunteers.

We aren't looking for a minimum commitment - you're welcome to come to one off sessions, or come every month, just so long as you're willing to get up and out into the Peak District on a Saturday or Sunday morning come rain or shine!

Overview of Project

The High Peak Estate boasts a huge expanse of hills, moorland and valleys covering some of the Peak District’s most loved and popular wild places. Visitors come from across the country, and beyond, to explore the open countryside and connect with nature. The staff and volunteer team work hard to conserve and protect the natural landscape, inspire people to enjoy the countryside responsibly and ensure the Peak District remains special for ever for everyone.

The weekend ranger volunteer role is a very varied role - volunteers will be helping our ranger team across the High Peak with tasks ranging from footpath repair, to tree maintenance, to sphagnum moss planting and much more.
