Christmas Lights Switch-on Volunteer - 16 November 2024

We are looking for enthusiastic people who enjoy working as part of a team to deliver fantastic events for Rotherham! Volunteers will support the Christmas Lights Switch on event on 16 November 2024 providing a warm welcome to visitors. The role will enable you to develop confidence in engaging with the public and working as part of a team.

Some of the tasks you will be undertaking include 

•       Provide a warm welcome and farewell to the public.

•       Aid navigation and encourage participation.

•       Respond to queries answer simple questions from members of the public.

•       Crowd Monitoring.

•       Act as runners.

Overview of Project

The Christmas Lights Switch on is an annual event taking place in Rotherham Town Centre. Welcoming families and friends the town centre is transformed providing live music, workshops and festive fun, finishing with lighting the Christmas Tree in All Saints Square.

This Role Involves

Volunteers are an important part of the event and supported by the Volunteer Coordinator the tasks carried out include the following: • Provide a warm welcome and farewell to the public. • Aid navigation and encourage participation. • Respond to queries answer simple questions from members of the public. • Crowd Monitoring. • Act as runners. • Help make people feel valued and proud of our borough

Skills/Experience Required

Volunteers should meet the following requirements: • Have a friendly and approachable personality. • Willing to work flexibly as part of a team. • Good communication skills • Confident engaging with members of the public. • Happy to work outdoors (we have delivered events in all weathers!) • Age 16+ However support is provided so if you're wanting to boost your confidence then come along and give it a go.

One off event for around 5 hours

Training Information

You will be supported by our volunteer coordinator and wider events organisers with equipment, advice and any guidance you may need.

Expenses Information

Travel expenses/car parking fees will be covered along with access to free refreshments during the duration of the event.
