Hallam Students' Union was deeply saddened to receive the news that Sheffield Hallam University Chancellor, Uriah Rennie, passed away over the weekend. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
Uri was best known for his remarkable career as a Premier League referee, officiating over 300 matches. After retiring in 2005, he continued to serve his beloved Sheffield with passion and integrity.
A tireless advocate for equality, inclusion, and mental health, Uri dedicated his life to supporting local communities and numerous charities. His work off the pitch had a profound impact, inspiring many across Sheffield and beyond.
Martha Mitchell, President of Hallam SU, paid tribute to Uri and offered her condolences to his loved ones:
"The Hallam SU Officer Team and HSU as a whole were deeply saddened and shocked to hear the news of Uri Rennie's passing.
Uri was an incredible man with a remarkable life story, and he truly embodied Hallam's values. Only last month we were celebrating Uri's installation, a very moving and inspiring occasion that we were so pleased to be a part of. We know Uri was really looking forward to being our Chancellor, and we were excited to see all he would do in the role.
Our thoughts are with those closest to Uri at this incredibly difficult time."
