Take part in a Hallam research study exploring Gen Z's use of low-cost online platforms such as Temu, Shein, or AliExpress.

What is this research about?

This research aims to understand why Gen Z students quit, consider quitting, or quit and then return to shopping at popular low-cost online platforms, and how they make sense of those decisions.

Who can take part?

To take part you must:

  • be aged between 18-30
  • be enrolled on a course at Sheffield Hallam University
  • have previously purchased from one or more of the following online platforms: Temu, Shein, or Ali Express.
  • have quit, considered quitting, or quit and then returned to shopping on any of these platforms.

What would I be asked to do?

Participants will be asked to take part in a short preliminary interview and a follow-up interview. Students can choose the format they prefer (either online via Teams or in-person on-campus).

Students will also be asked to complete a 12-week diary, sharing a couple of reflections per week on their decisions to quit, consider quitting, or return to using Temu, Shein, or AliExpress.

You will earn up to £40 in shopping vouchers for taking part.
