Following the recent attack at a Mosque in East Sussex on 4 October, our thoughts are with everyone directly affected, all Muslim students and staff in our community, and those who may be feeling distressed by this event.

Targeted violence against minority groups is unacceptable and has no place in our community. At Hallam SU we stand firmly against racism, hate, and all forms of unlawful discrimination or harassment. Hallam is proud to be a university of sanctuary; it's a welcoming, safe, and inclusive place where everyone is supported to thrive. We are proud of our diverse Hallam community and deeply value the richness all cultures bring.

Please remember to be respectful and kind to others. If you witness or experience any form of harassment or discrimination, whether that be on campus or elsewhere, we encourage you to report it using Hallam's Report and Support service.

Support for affected students:

  • The University provide wellbeing support if you would like to talk to someone about how you are feeling.
  • It is a good idea for you to talk with your Student Support Adviser if you've been impacted in any way.
  • You can contact the University's Chaplaincy at chaplaincy@shu.ac.uk. The Chaplaincy are supportive of all Hallam students.
  • SU Advice can advise you if your ability to fulfil academic commitments has been impacted.
  • You can also reach out to Hallam SU's Islamic Society if you'd like to connect with peers.
