On Tuesday 2 December, 38 Hallam SU student members attended an additional Members' Meeting to discuss and vote on the following belief:
No Cuts: "Students should have fully funded courses, with respect to the individual course, and support services that are adequately staffed, without fear of transfer, with HSU supporting them through the lobbying of SHU management and support of industrial action that defends student interests".
The results
In accordance with our Bye-Laws, the additional Members' Meeting was quorate (30 student attendees) and two votes were held.
Each vote was decided by a simple majority (i.e. if there are more 'yes' votes than 'no' votes cast by members present at the meeting, the item will pass).
Should Hallam SU adopt the 'No Cuts' belief?
Vote Count: 38
Outcome: Yes (passed)
Should HSU make the 'No Cuts' belief an 'HSU priority' for the 2025/26 academic year?
Vote Count: 32
Outcome: Yes (passed)
What happens next?
As the 'No Cuts' belief has been voted to be an HSU priority, we'll convene a Policy Forum as soon as is reasonably possible to review the six current HSU priorities and agree which of the pre-existing six will be replaced by 'No Cuts'.
An HSU Officer will then be allocated to support the development of an action plan for this new priority, in partnership with interested students.
You can view all current beliefs online.
Minutes from the Members' Meeting are being reviewed and will be included in this article shortly.
