Your representatives

Course Reps

Your Course Reps check in on how things are going on your course and share your thoughts with lecturers and tutors. They're there to represent you, ensuring any concerns are addressed and helping to improve the overall learning experience.

Interested in becoming a Course Rep? Sign up online.

Lead Rep

Your Lead Rep works with the Students' Union. They listen to concerns from Course Reps and raise any wider-spread issues in higher level meetings with the School/Institute, ensuring staff can change things that impact as many students as possible. They also work on a set of specific projects each year to help improve the student experience in your School/Institute!

College Officer

Your College Officer takes a year out from study to work full-time for the Students' Union. They represent the student body, amplify the student voice, and improve the student experience. Officers work closely with Lead Reps to understand student concerns, and work with the University, Students' Union, and local authorities on projects to improve areas most important to students.

Not sure who your Reps are? Use the Find My Rep tool to see who represents you.

Community Fridge

The Community Fridge is stocked with surplus food donated by local businesses and suppliers, often items nearing their sell-by date but still perfectly good to eat. You'll find a range of items like fresh produce, dairy products, snacks, and more, all available for free. It's there to provide extra support when your student budget gets tight.

Swap Shop

Clothing Swap Shop

Refresh your wardrobe without spending money. Simply take clean, wearable clothing, shoes, and accessories you no longer need to the Students' Union during opening hours, hand them over to a shop volunteer, and choose something from the shop to trade them for.

Can't find anything to swap your item(s) for? Don't worry, you'll be given a Swap Shop card with a stamp for each item donated so you can return another time when new stock has been added. Just remember to bring your stamp card with you!

Materials Swap Shop

Created in response to student feedback, the Materials Swap Shop helps support students facing high course material costs.

With a range of materials on offer, including paper, fabrics, paints, tools, and more, simply take your surplus materials to the Students' Union during opening hours and swap them for something else. You can even buy art materials from the shop for a small donation, so don't worry if you have nothing to swap.

Book Swap

Refresh your bookshelf without spending money. Simply take a book you no longer want to the Students' Union during opening hours and trade it for something else from the collection.

Check out our online Cost of Living Hub for information on everything from additional funding and money saving tips to health and wellbeing resources and emergency support.

Report + Support

Hallam doesn't stand for harassment or abuse. If you experience sexual violence, harassment, abuse, or a hate crime, you can report it online via Report + Support - report anonymously or request to get support from an adviser.

Drugs and alcohol

Harm reduction

Free drug testing kits are available to collect from Hallam Students' Union.

At Hallam SU, we have a harm reduction policy for drugs and alcohol, acknowledging that drug consumption is illegal and not something we condone but understanding that does not stop students from using them.

Your wellbeing is our priority, so we provide information and tools to help you stay safe if you or your friends choose to consume drugs or alcohol.

Spiking

Free anti- drink spiking kits are available to collect from Hallam Students' Union.

Plus, we have online information to help you understand what spiking is, signs to look out for, and what to do if you think you, or someone you're with, has been spiked.

No matter the issue, there are friendly teams and support services available and ready to help whenever you need it. Never be scared or ashamed to reach out.
