Course Rep Badge Guidance

Signed Up

Expected time: 5–10 minutes

To unlock this badge, you must sign up as a Course Rep. You can do this through our Signup Page. The signup process involves watching a short video from your Education Officer about the role, followed by a quick quiz! Once you’ve answered all of the questions correctly, your signup is complete. You will receive an email welcoming you to the role.

Attended Course Rep Induction

Expected time: One hour and a half

Attend a Course Rep Induction Training to unlock this Badge. You can view upcoming sessions and book onto one on our Course Rep Resources page. The Course Rep Induction will give you all the information you need to do well as a Course Rep.

Attended Student Voice Meeting

Expected time: One hour (plus one to two hours’ prep)

You can unlock this badge by collecting feedback from your coursemates and presenting your findings at your next Student Voice Meeting.

Your Course Leader will usually contact you a couple of weeks before your Student Voice Meeting, so you know when and where it will take place. Student Voice Meetings are your chance to share what students are saying and work with staff to advocate for change – it’s really important that you attend!

You’ll learn more about how to prepare for a Student Voice Meeting, and what to expect, at the Course Rep Induction.

If you really can’t attend your Student Voice Meeting, you can still unlock this badge by collecting feedback from your fellow students and sending it (with your apologies) to your Course Leader.

Closed the Feedback Loop

Expected time: Half an hour

To unlock this badge, let your fellow students know what has been discussed and agreed at your Student Voice Meeting. Doing this helps to ensure that students know that their feedback is valued.

The best way to do this is through the Course Rep Messaging system, which you can access via the Course Rep Resources page. If there’s more than one Rep for your cohort, make sure to get in contact with your fellow Reps and send out a joint message.

If you’ve noticed that another Rep has already sent a message, but you’d still like to earn this badge, you can show us how you’ve engaged with your student community in another way. Use the Course Rep Badges Log form to submit evidence of this.

Attended Development Training

Expected time: One hour

To unlock this badge, attend one of our development training sessions (any session other than your Induction). These sessions are designed to help you grow your skills and confidence as a Rep. You’ll find the full list of upcoming sessions on the Rep Resources page (they will be later in the year than Induction). Have a topic in mind that would boost your role even more? Let us know at studentreps@shu.ac.uk. We’re always adding new sessions based on your feedback!

Attended Student Forum

Expected time: 90 minutes

You can unlock this badge by taking part in your School/Institute Student Forum. This is a key meeting for you, where you’ll collaborate with your Lead Rep, academics, and other Reps in your School or Institute to create solutions to the biggest issues that students are facing.

Student Forums take place later on in the Semester, so keep an eye on your inbox! You can also learn more about how the Forums work in the Course Rep Handbook. If you cannot attend your Forum, you can still unlock this badge by collecting feedback from your fellow students and sending this in alongside your apologies to your Lead Rep.

Collaborated with Lead Rep

Expected time: From one hour

Your Lead Rep champions students’ opinions across your School/Institute. To do this well, they need your help! Throughout the year, you’ll have opportunities to collaborate with your Lead Rep to improve the student experience. How you collaborate may be different depending on the context and the exact project, but to earn this badge you’ll need to demonstrate that you’ve meaningfully engaged with your Rep’s work. Log evidence of this using the Course Rep Badges Log form.

Completed Course Rep Survey

Expected time: 20 minutes

To unlock this badge, complete the Course Rep Survey. This will be sent to you after Semester two activities. Your job as a Rep is to make sure that student feedback is listened to – and that includes feedback about the Rep system! This is your opportunity to tell us about what’s gone well this year, what could be done differently, and where you could have done with support.

Rep Elective Project

Expected time: From two hours

To unlock this badge, you’ll need to work on a project that impacts the student experience. More information coming soon! Log evidence of this using the Course Rep Badges Log form.
