Love listening to live bands or music but also want to volunteer your time. We may have the perfect role for you. The Samuel Worth Chapel, in Sheffield General Cemetery, is becoming a great spot for bands to play. We need volunteers to help on the bar during these nights. If you don't mind a late night then this role is perfect.
Sheffield General Cemetery is a valuable green space in the heart of the City. Our site is of unique historical importance, contains 87,000 burials, is a haven for wildlife and a tranquil place for all to enjoy. Being able to hire out the Grade II* listed Non-Conformist chapel in the heart of the cemetery, as well as our Airbnb beautiful Grade II* gatehouse flat is bringing in income which enables us to support the conservation and heritage work done by our volunteers who work in partnership with the city council. We are a registered charity and company run by a board of Trustees.
There are lots of different events taking place at Sheffield General Cemetery throughout the year. The Samuel Worth Chapel is a great unique space in the centre of the Cemetery where varied events take place. These include exhibitions, post punk music nights, films, children's craft activities, poetry readings, recitals by choirs, weddings, history and heritage talks. We also hold conservation events within the Cemetery.
Sheffield General Cemetery is looking for volunteers who can help at these events and task may include
Helping to prepare – moving tables, putting up information and signage, setting up trails, putting up gazebos, preparing craft activities
Providing a warm friendly welcome to all visitors, answering any questions, and encouraging people to get involved
Running stalls, assisting with activities
Ticket selling
Using electronic payment systems
Overseeing family activities
Serving refreshments in our cafe
Working on our bar
Stewarding – checking tickets, directing visitors
Encouraging visitors to complete feedback forms
Clearing up after events – taking down gazebos, packing away tables, moving equipment, clearing signage, litter picking
Whether you're looking to add to your cv or simply to enjoy something new we will offer you a worthwhile and enjoyable volunteering experience with support from our board of trustees, paid staff and existing team of volunteers.
