President

The President is the lead student representative within Hallam Students' Union, and champions the student voice, both to the University, local, and national bodies. The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to lead the Officer Team, steer the direction of the Union, and develop transformative skills.

Type: Full-time
Salary: £22,960 (subject to pay review in June 2025).
Location: Sheffield (Hallam Students' Union and Sheffield Hallam University Campuses)
Reports to: Board of trustees, student-led accountability panels

Responsibilities

Role-specific responsibilities include:

  • Leading the HSU Officer team.
  • Championing all the HSU Officer team's priorities and campaigning to the University and beyond.
  • Being a member of the University Board of Governors.
  • Being the Deputy Chair of the Board of Trustees.
  • Being the main point of contact for the University, the Board of Governors, the National Union of Students, the community, and the media.
  • Being the lead Officer in ensuring that HSU is environmentally sustainable.
  • Promoting and developing Social Societies at HSU.

All HSU Officers also have the following responsibilities:

  • Representing and defending the rights and interests of all students at Sheffield Hallam University, within the Union, to the University, locally, and nationally.
  • Supporting and encouraging all relevant student activity at Hallam SU.
  • Contributing meaningfully to the Union's decision-making processes in a way that they sincerely believe is in the best interests of Hallam students.
  • Working towards the Union's priorities and being accountable to Hallam students on their progress by attending Accountability Panels.
  • Developing strong working relationships with University staff relevant to their role.
  • Campaigning and lobbying on issues affecting Hallam students.
  • Attending all HSU Members' Meetings, Trustee Board, and Union decision-making meetings wherever possible.
  • Working on anything mandated by students through the Union's decision-making processes.

International Students' Officer

The International Students' Officer represents the voice of international students at Hallam Students' Union. They work on key issues impacting international students at Hallam and have a real opportunity to make important changes to campus life!

Type: Full-time
Salary: £22,960 (subject to pay review in June 2025).
Location: Sheffield (Hallam Students' Union and Sheffield Hallam University Campuses)
Reports to: The President, Board of trustees, student-led accountability panels

Responsibilities

Role-specific responsibilities include:

  • Being the lead Officer for representing the interests of all International students at Hallam.
  • Lobbying the University to ensure International students' interests are taken into account.
  • Being a member of relevant University committees relating to International student experience, recruitment, and engagement.
  • Supporting and collaborating with HSU Cultural Societies and working to ensure HSU and SHU provide opportunities for International students to socialise with each other and with Home students.

All HSU Officers also have the following responsibilities:

  • Representing and defending the rights and interests of all students at Sheffield Hallam University, within the Union, to the University, locally, and nationally.
  • Supporting and encouraging all relevant student activity at Hallam SU.
  • Contributing meaningfully to the Union's decision-making processes in a way that they sincerely believe is in the best interests of Hallam students.
  • Working towards the Union's priorities and being accountable to Hallam students on their progress by attending Accountability Panels.

Wellbeing, Sport and Physical Activity Officer

The Wellbeing, Sport & Physical Activity Officer works to promote physical and mental wellbeing among students at Sheffield Hallam. From raising awareness of issues around mental health to organising Varsity, students in this role can improve the student experience in a huge variety of ways.

Salary: £22,960 (subject to pay review in June 2025).
Location: Sheffield (Hallam Students' Union and Sheffield Hallam University Campuses)
Reports to: The President, Board of trustees, student-led accountability panels

Responsibilities

Role-specific responsibilities include:

  • Leading on activities, projects, and campaigns that promote all aspects of student wellbeing at Hallam.
  • Being the lead Officer for promoting participation in sport and physical activity.
  • Championing and advocating for students' interests in all University strategy work that relates to wellbeing, sport, and physical activity.
  • Being the lead Officer for student experience for Varsity.
  • Working closely with sports clubs and the Sports Committee at Hallam, championing their interests, and promoting their contribution to Union decision-making.
  • Collaborating with other Officers to ensure wellbeing, sport, and physical activity initiatives are available to all students at Hallam.
  • Supporting events such as Sports Fair and Sports Awards.

All HSU Officers also have the following responsibilities:

  • Representing and defending the rights and interests of all students at Sheffield Hallam University, within the Union, to the University, locally, and nationally.
  • Supporting and encouraging all relevant student activity at Hallam SU.
  • Contributing meaningfully to the Union's decision-making processes in a way that they sincerely believe is in the best interests of Hallam students.

Education Officer - College of Business, Technology and Engineering

This role takes the lead on academic issues within the College of Business, Technology & Engineering (BTE). They meet regularly with senior College staff, ensuring students' opinions are listened to and acted upon.

Location: Sheffield (The Students' Union and Sheffield Hallam University Campuses)
Reports to: President, and the student body via Union Council

Responsibilities

This role represents the voice of students in the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences (HWLS). They sit on the highest governing boards within their College, voicing key issues amongst HWLS students, holding the College to account, and creating positive changes to the student experience.

Reports to: President, and the student body via Union Council

Responsibilities

Role-specific responsibilities include:
