SU services, resources and tips

We've put together a list of the best Sheffield Greenspaces to go for a walk, run, or just to chill. There are options close to both City and Collegiate campuses, with different shapes and sizes to suit all tastes.

In conjunction with SHU, we've set up a Sport Hardship Fund for those who can't afford to take part in student sport. To access this, speak to a member of Team Hallam who will be able to talk you through the application criteria and process and help you submit your application.

Hallam Active is a gym for students, staff and Alumni, with memberships to suit all budgets. They offer high quality equipment, fitness classes, and personal training, and have sites at both City and Collegiate campuses. You can also upgrade, freeze, or cancel your membership at any time so it's really flexible.

External services and products

If you're looking to get active but the Hallam gyms aren't for you, there are plenty of other options across the City, many with great prices and some with student discount. The Gym Group and PureGym are probably some of the cheapest memberships, and they both currently have joining offers.

Living Well have created some top tips for living a healthy lifestyle and keeping active in your day-to-day life. Simple things like getting off the bus a stop earlier and parking further away from campus (which will also save you a few quid!) can help you to keep active every day without spending a penny.

MapMyRun is a great website that gives the best local running routes. There are many across Sheffield with distances and elevation levels to suit most abilities.

If you're just getting started on your fitness journey and don't fancy breaking a sweat in the gym, you can get active for free in the comfort of your own home. There is a huge range of home workouts for every ability, including videos from the NHS. A quick Google will reveal enough variety to last you right until Graduation day, and the majority don't even require equipment!
