Veezu, formerly known as City Taxis, has once again pledged to support students and sports fans in Sheffield throughout the year with its 'Safe Rides' initiative.
Working in collaboration with the Students' Unions at University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University for over ten years, Veezu Safe Rides ensures that all students can get a lift home with the private hire company, even if they don't have any money available for the fare.
24 hours a day, seven days a week, students from the participating universities can book a journey with Veezu up to the value of £10 which can be paid at a later date.
By phoning 0114 239 39 39, quoting 'Sheffield University Safe Rides' or 'Sheffield Hallam University Safe Rides', a vehicle will be sent to stranded students.
They must give a valid student ID card to the driver as temporary payment which will be passed on to the Students' Union, where the student can collect it and settle their payment within 72 hours. Members of staff at the Students' Unions are fully trained to offer support and advice about the service.
Sacha Skinner, Hyperlocal Marketing Manager for Veezu, said: "Moving to a new area and starting university can be daunting, so we are here to support students in Sheffield as they find their feet; our emergency ride service will ensure students can always get home safe without worry over finding the fare."
In 2015, the Safe Ride Scheme was launched at Sheffield United FC, enabling fans to use their season cards to get home safely. Veezu have now extended this offer to Sheffield United Women's season card holders, as part of their new partnership with the women's team. Season card holders can follow the same process as above, calling 0114 239 39 39 and quoting 'SUFC Safe Rides', giving the driver-partner their season card, which can be collected from the club reception within 72 hours.
Veezu is the new name for City Taxis across Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Derby and Chesterfield. A regional brand of the UK's fastest-growing taxi and private hire technology platform Veezu Group, City Taxis was acquired in February 2023.
