Statement on the Turkey/Syria Earthquake

Dear Students,

As a Students' Union and Officers Team, we express our solidarity with those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, as well as with the students who have been directly impacted. The devastating earthquakes have killed thousands of people and rendered millions homeless. It is a precarious position, and we want our Turkish and Syrian students to know that we are with them and for them.

We want to reassure our students that we will do our best to reach out to the community and offer the best possible support. We will also closely work with the University to ensure students who have been directly affected receive the support they need.

If you require any assistance or support during these difficult times, please do not hesitate to contact us. If the situation...

  • is causing you emotional distress, please contact and request advice and support from a wellbeing practitioner (student.wellbeing@shu.ac.uk)
  • has an impact on your studies, please contact your student support adviser (hallamhelp@shu.ac.uk)
  • has a financial impact, please contact the International Experience Team; you can book an online appointment to discuss the best way to assist you

If you need general help and advice, please contact advicecentre@shu.ac.uk.

We also encourage you to stay in touch with your family and friends to find out if they are safe.

Please know that we are here for you and stand in solidarity during these challenging times. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards,

Your Student Officer team

Sheffield Hallam Students' Union
