Sheffield Hallam Student Union's Debate Society meets weekly for a collaborative debate on issues chosen by its members on Thursdays at 6pm at Owen Building (City Campus) Room 922.
Our upcoming debates are listed under 'events' on our Facebook page SHSU Debating Society. Past topics have included euthanasia, animal rights, sex and society, human rights, communism... The list goes on!
We've been in existence for eight years now and our casual format is popular with students - everyone gets the opportunity to speak (if they want to). Membership is completely free; all you have to do is turn up to the events.
We don't just debate; we socialize, going out on regular socials whether it’s just going out to the pub or bowling or even a night out since we have an Organised Chaos partnership. We also try to take our members out on trips such as Parliament where we have gone a number of times in the past and offer them the opportunity to see how professional debates help to mould the world.
We hope to see you at a debate - or better yet, suggest a topic! This really is your chance to open up an enlightening conversation with a collection of interesting people.
