The Bioscience Society (BioSoc) is a Society for all students and staff who share an interest in all things Sciencey! Particularly for all those studying Biosciences (biology, human biology, biochemistry, biomedical science), Chemistry and Forensics!

After a successful 2019/20 academic year, a new committee has been formed to offer lots of extra-cirricular activities and events to celebrate your time at Sheffield Hallam University! If you're new to Sheffield Hallam and studying a Bioscience course; welcome! We look forwards to meeting you and congratulations on securing your place!

In the previous years the society has welcomed guest speaker, Lord Robert Winston, which we will hopefully repeat! As well as running regular socials, fundraising events and trips Chester Zoo, London and Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Join us for a year full of socials and opportunities to meet fellow students interested in Bioscience! This year we plan on hosting a BioSoc end-of-year social to celebrate the hard work and accompliments achieved throughout the year - So join us now and guarantee yourself a ticket!

During 2019/20, we've celebrated such events as:

BioSoc Macmillan Coffee Morning

  • In less than 4 hours, BioSoc raised £188.40 by selling baked good and hot drinks to go to Macmillan Cancer Support!
  • Fundraising is a vital component what we do at BioSoc and will look fantastic in job applications and university E-portfolios!

BioSoc vs ChemSoc Night Out

  • Our very good friends at ChemSoc were able to join us for a night of drinks, games and competitions to find out who's the top of the Socs! Bring your own PPE as standard for this scientific affair!
  • We've maintained a partner-relationship with OHM so we can get you reduced drinks and a guaranteed venue to meet with other BioSoc members and get to know people with similar interests!

This year with a membership fee of just £5 for the year, you can enjoy discounted drinks for social nights out at OHM social events as well as celebrating Biology Week, doing charity fundraising,. For first years we will be organizing a small tour around City campus and tips and tricks on how to survive at university. For students graduating this year we will try to provide as much support as possible by sending emails with graduate jobs opportunities. With your membership you also get a priority in securing end of year ball tickets at a cheaper cost than the original ones.
