The SHSU Reading Society is aimed towards those who love reading for pleasure.
We’re a diverse group of students who love reading and discussing a wide range of reads. We’re open to all whether you enjoy reading fiction novels, non-fiction books or even prefer manga.
Each month there is a choice of two books to read which will be chosen by a poll put up on Facebook. We’re a completely free society. There is no need to purchase the books as we will provide them for you to borrow. There’s no pressure to finish the books or even read them at all. Just a keen interest in reading is required.
We meet twice a month to discuss books and socialise. Expect bookish quizzes at our main meetings and socials at Spoons as well as at cafes. We also do film screenings and other book related events throughout the year as well as possible trips.
With some members showing a keen interest in writing, we have decided to host a writing group where members can get together and discuss their work, as well as having quiet time to write. We were thinking of hosting these events separate to the reading meetings however these details are yet to be determined.
Our first event of the year will be run on 29th September and will give you a chance to meet the committee, interact with others and find out whether the society is for you. To attend you will need to add the event to your basket and checkout. Don't worry though, tickets to the event are free. You will then be emailed an invitation for the event hosted on Google Hangouts
Feel free to send us a message on Facebook, Instagram or by email if you have any questions!
