Friday night was the highly anticipated Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union Awards night. A celebration of the hard work the Student Staff, Officer Team and other student activity groups have done throughout the year. As well as awards, there was plenty of entertainment throughout the night with great performances from the stand-up comedian Christopher Ferguson and singer song-writer Zuza Paveley.
The nominees ranged from dynamic social enterprisers who give back to the communit through literature and, arts and crafts workshops, to the resilient Student Reps, who work hard to bridge the gap between the academic staff and students.
We spoke to winner of the Steel City Achievement Award Roxana Whiteman, a final year Adult Nursing student who works with several nursing homes to bring arts and crafts workshops to its residents this is what she had to say about her work:
“I wanted to help people, people that I share and live with in the community, the community of Goldthorpe.”
One highlight of the night was the heartfelt speech that the current Students' Union President, Emily Connor, gave on the work and achievements of her fellow Officers.
