Befriending & Activities Volunteer

Project Overview

Are you interested in supporting people in a Sheffcare care home? This is a really good opportunity to visit and befriend residents who live in a Sheffcare Care Home this helps greatly to improve their health and well-being and enhance their overall quality of life.

In the role you will:

  • Spend time talking with residents and reminiscing
  • Read to residents
  • Help residents join in a wide variety of activities – you may have particular areas of interest. (anything you're interested feel free to share!)
  • Assist with group activities 
  • Accompany residents on trips with other members of staff

Skills required

  • Good interpersonal skills, are you patient and caring and a good listener?
  • Reliable and able to give time regularly ideally at least 2 hours a week.
  • Have an understanding of the need for confidentiality in a care setting.

Commitment

At least 2 hours per week

Hours

Days and times of the day are flexible 

Between 10am -12pm mornings

Between 1.30pm -4pm - Afternoons

Volunteering can take place 7 days a week as the care homes are open.

Project Overview 

Music is a wonderful thing to share and for older people particularly those living with dementia it can be a life line to help them feel more at ease, comfortable, and happy.

We are looking for people to help do some investigating which tunes each of our residents like by talking to them about music and playing them musical clips to watch for their reaction.

In this role you will

  • Listen to the residents and talk to them about music
  • Create a list of song and compile a playlist for them
  • Investigate the favourite music of the residents and play them the songs

Skills required

  • A love of music and an appreciation of the power of music to people living with dementia
  • Good communications skills and to enjoy listening and sharing conversations.
  • Be polite and respectful to older people.
  • Be warm hearted and compassionate .Smiling and being generally friendly are very much welcomed.
  • Having some experience interacting with people with dementia can be useful but is not essential as training is given.

Commitment

At least 2 hours per week
